Zero Carbon Canberra

The Future-Makers: Zero Carbon Canberra Workshops

‘The Future-Makers’ was a local scale model building project visualising how the sciences of climate and light will continue to powerfully combine to reshape Canberra’s energy profile over the next decade.

The first building workshops for this project were especially for schools in the Wanniassa area to book and participate in, starting from 22 July to 22 August 2015, which included National Science Week and at the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths) Careers Expo.

Students and teachers were invited to help guide, develop, discuss, build and launch two scale models: a Concentrated Solar Power plant (pictured) and an entire regional Zero Carbon Canberra scale model.

The workshops were free.

This project was a collaboration between SEE-Change and Beyond Zero Emissions.

The Future-Makers: Zero Carbon Canberra Launch

On Friday 14 August and Saturday 15 August, the Future-Makers: Zero Carbon Canberra model was launched as part of a rich interactive display that brought together the latest research, technologies and actions that support the Canberra Region to become and go beyond a ‘zero carbon’ energy profile.

Zero Carbon Canberra offered a double pass ticket to see renowned astrophysicist and presenter of the revamped COSMOS series, Neil deGrasse Tyson, on Sunday 23rd August at 6pm at Llewelyn hall.

To win, all you needed to do was choose (and then install into the mirror field) the winning heliostat strip from a lucky dip at the Zero Carbon Canberra Model workshops being held at the Zero Carbon Canberra display launch.
