The Low Energy Super Shed

The Low Energy Super Shed (LESS) – known as the Super Shed, aiming to be constructed in 2017.

We are supporting Canberra City Farm, a voluntary group, who are developing a demonstration education centre about sustainable food and living, which includes organic gardens, bee keeping and fruit orchards at a site leased from the ACT Government for 10 years in Dairy Road Fyshwick.

Their current lunch room is a leaky, vandalised, double metal garage which we wish to convert to a clean, comfortable passivhaus demonstration building. Passivhaus buildings consume virtually no heating or cooling, whilst still providing 100% fresh air at a comfortable temperature.

There are currently no buildings open to the public in the ACT that can demonstrate passivhaus principles; we wish the Super Shed to be the first such building. Much can be learned from passivhaus design principles to live a lower carbon life even if personal situations do not allow an individual or family to reach the passivhaus standard.

Once complete, we are hoping to hold talks within the Super Shed for any interested community groups, students and associations to educate and activate the community to improve the thermal comfort in their homes whilst reducing their energy consumption, CO2 emissions and energy cost.
