This solar passive house with large north facing windows had the house turned on the block to face north.
Windows are double glazed and with honey-combed blinds.
All walls and floor are concrete for mass.
The outside walls are double concrete with insulation between, plus the slab is insulated.
There is a large rainwater tank connected to toilets, washing machine and garden. It has solar panels that generate more electricity than used.
There is solar hot water, ‘off’ wall switches for the stove and oven to prevent standby power electricity being drained and the garden is still under construct1 ...

World Wetlands Open Day at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands

This Open Day is now going to be an annual event held as close to World Wetlands Day each year as possible.

Mark Spain has kindly offered to present the latest Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) report on the potential for Australia to be a renewable energy superpower, as well as an overview of other BZE publications in the Inner South, Canberra.
Beyond Zero Emissions’s new Renewable Energy Superpower research (following on from the Fossil Economy and Carbon Crisis reports) identifies in detail the now very apparent and compelling opportunities associated with being prepared for the global transition to clean energy.

The ACT government will shortly invite developers to submit proposals to develop the Canberra Brickworks Precinct.
The Canberra Brickworks Precinct Community Panel has been meeting since November 2015 to formulate a set of objectives, parameters and perspectives that will shape the future development.
The forum will provide the community with an opportunity to view the objectives, parameters and perspectives and hear from members of the Community Panel including representatives from:
