Enabling change in our Society, Environment and Economy (SEE)

Energy Congress Summary

By Kaveri Chakrabarty

On Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 June 2014, an Energy Congress was held in Canberra.

This inaugural gathering of the newly formed ‘Coalition for Community Energy’ (C4CE) proved to be a great success.

It brought together community groups, council leaders, industry representatives from across Australia and overseas, as well as policy makers and political figures from ACT/NSW and Federal governments, to create the ‘enabling’ milieu that the community energy sector needs at present to forge ahead.

Alliances were formed, both informal and formal, with a number of ‘Strategic Initiatives’ being undertaken with specific deliverables over the next 6-9 months.

Two hundred and fifty people attended from all around Australia to advance community energy projects.

The record of the congress is available at http://c4cecongress14.wordpress.com.

Details of the event are at http://c4ce.net.au.

To celebrate the official launch of C4CE, every group who registered went into the draw to win a beautiful hamper ~ valued at $200 and full of Capital Region and Australian goodies.

SEE-Change won this hamper and we will celebrate our founding involvement and commitment to creating a vibrant community energy sector in Australia, by sharing this hamper with our members.

From a personal perspective, I benefited by both gaining new ideas for possible future areas of focus for SEE-Change, and some immediate actions to be followed up for SolarShare.
