Dutch DNA is Not Coded for Cycling
by Anne Clarke, March 2012
The Netherlands provides a great example of how planning and infrastructure for cyclists creates better outcomes for cities. Martin from our Woden group has kindly shared this link of a video which offers some terrific insights into the deliberate measures the Dutch people took to encourage cycling and some of the benefits of a bicycle friendly world.
Dutch planners were quick to recognise the potential for transport trouble when cars first became affordable luxuries. The active participation of the Dutch people in the political process increased the will to create the integrated approach to planning, infrastructure and education makes that has made their cities more useable, vibrant and economically vital.
How might we as a community contribute to creating something like this in Canberra?
