ACT Government’s Action Plan 2

The ACT has the country’s most ambitious greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets; a 40% reduction in emissions from 1990 levels by 2020, and carbon neutrality (zero net emissions) by 2060.

Released in October 2013, Action Plan 2 (AP2) is the ACT Government’s strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with policies targeting the following sectors:

• Residential sector energy use;
• Non-residential sector energy use;
• Transport sector emissions;
• Waste sector emissions; and
• Energy supply sector emissions

Reductions will be achieved through a variety of policies, and include reducing electricity, gas and transport fuel consumption and improving efficiency, reducing emissions from ACT landfill sites, and transitioning the Territory’s electricity supply to large-scale renewable energy.

AP2 also includes assessment of climate change risks and impacts, to guide future adaptation planning, and a commitment to transparency and regular reporting of progress.
