Scullin-an inspirational tour

Over 30 people attended this wonderful sustainable house open day and were inspired by what they saw.

This house tour showcased ways to make this 46-year-old house more sustainable and resilient.

The owners are striving for personal resilience through growing and preserving their own food, bulk buying of grains, and supplementing the normal gas and electric appliances with some off-grid ones.

grinding bikeDuring the tour several types of solar ovens, a bicycle powered grain mill and smoothie blender were operating, plus a hand-cranked combination mixer and food processor.

It also showcased solar panels with battery storage and two types of double glazing.

The garden included food plants in the front, side and back yards, water tanks, wicking beds, a grey water system, and lean-to greenhouse.
