SEE-Change Inner South

The next Inner South meeting will be held on the 6th of December, in a bird hide at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands.  Contact inner.south@see-change.org.au for more details.

The SEE-Change Inner South group emerged following a seminar at Manning Clark House in Forrest in August 2009 on a carbon-neutral Canberra.  Professor Will Steffen, Executive Director of ANU’s Climate Change Institute, talked about ‘Meeting the Climate Change Challenge: A Vision for Canberra and the Region’. Professor Bob Douglas AO, Chair of SEE-Change. then asked, ‘What will a carbon-neutral Canberra look like and what will it take to bring it about?’  After questions from the audience, Bob led a brainstorming session about how we can assist the government in meeting its climate change and sustainability goals, while at the same time fostering stronger communities.

Since then, SEE-Change Inner South has:

  • organised viewings of local homes to share information and inspire us about things we can do to reduce our ecological footprint
  • made use of equipment to monitor energy use - you can borrow a Home Energy Action Kit through the ACT Public Libraries
  • held a briefing on the Copenhagen Climate Change Summit
  • prepared submissions to the ACT Government

Here is a list of submissions we have made:

  • sustainable public transport
  • urban forest management and renewal
  • the East Lake development
  • Draft Variation No. 301 to the Territory Plan (estate development code)
