Halve your Household waste

“One week = one shopping bag full of rubbish.  There are two adults and three children in the house.  Our challenge has been set.  Impossible!  I hear you say.  Well here’s how we did it”.

That’s Mia Swainson, sustainable living advocate and writer for HerCanberra.  Mia set her young and busy family a challenge to significantly reduce the amount of waste they send to landfill each week, and succeeded!

Join Mia in this workshop and go home with simple and practical tips for reducing, reusing and recycling with your family.  Mia will walk you through the basics of waste separation, worm farming, composting, keeping chickens and more.  Be inspired and ready for action!

So that you can get the most out of the workshop, please take a look at your green household waste bin in the week leading up to the workshop, before you put it out for collection, and estimate the percentage make-up in your waste stream.  Bring along your response to the workshop and we’ll discuss them on the day. Don’t worry – we’ll send you a reminder email the week before the workshop!

Book your place by clicking of the green ‘register’ button above.

Mia Swainson is a sustainable living advocate.  Trained as an environmental engineer, Mia’s work in sustainable development has taken her across Australia and around the world.  She is currently a member of the Canberra Environment Centre’s Board and regularly facilitates workshops that help people cut their household waste in half.  Mia’s sustainable living articles are regularly published by HerCanberra. Her family of five are on a sustainable living journey.  They’ve reduced their waste to an astonishing one litre of waste per week and are working towards a carbon neutral family footprint.

At this event we will also welcome Janet from Planet Bee. Janet makes wonderful beeswax wraps from up-cycled fabric. She will have some for sale at the end of the workshop if you are interested.
