Compost workshop
Mar 4 @ 10:00 am – 3:00 pm
Compost workshop @ Inner North

SEE-Change and Canberra City Farm are collaborating to bring you a wonderful hands-on workshop about compost.

What you will learn

Jenni will show you how to make a large-scale, hot compost heap.

  • This type of compost heap doesn’t need turning and will get to about 70 degrees – that’s hot enough to knock out all weed seeds!
  • This method generates about two cubic metres of beautiful compost, ready for mid-winter preparation of veggie beds and feeding fruit trees.
  • Building the heap takes all day, and you are welcome to drop in as we demonstrate the Indore method of making compost (outlined in Peter Bennett’s book, The Organic Gardener).

Keith will show you how to compost on a smaller scale suitable for everyday kitchen scraps.

  • How to compost your kitchen and garden waste.
  • How to set up a worm farm.
  • How to use a bokashi bucket.

Time:

10.00am – 2.00pm – Jenni’s hot compost
2.00pm – 3.30pm – Keith’s composting

Please wear appropriate clothing for getting involved with the compost process.

1st Tuesday at the Wetlands
Mar 7 @ 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
1st Tuesday at the Wetlands @ Wetlands Education Centre | Fyshwick | Australian Capital Territory | Australia

Our regular first Tuesday activity is on this Tuesday! Activities will depend on the weather and how much rain we’ve had but are likely to include watering some of our previous plantings, which will probably be ready for a good drink again. Please wear sun protection, long pants and enclosed shoes, and bring plenty of water. In case we engage in blackberry battles again, long sleeves would also be a good idea.  We will go to the nearby cafe for a drink or lunch if people are keen.

Please Note: the Wetlands Education Centre, also called the Wetlands offices, is at 2 Dairy Road, Fyshwick. It is a small group of low buildings on the left. You need to drive past the 2 big Wetlands Foreshore vertical signs with Entrance 1 and Entrance 2 on them (an industrial estate) and continue on down Dairy Rd 300m or so till you see the open gate on the left. If you get to the end of the road by the public carpark you’ve gone too far. We’re up the ramp of the building on the right. There will generally be cars parked outside it.

Jerrabomberra Wetlands @ Jerrabomberra Wetlands Education Centre | Fyshwick | Australian Capital Territory | Australia

This regular Saturday event will do a range of activities, including surveying bird boxes and weeding.

Please wear long pants and enclosed shoes, and bring plenty of water.

Layers of clothes work best in our changeable climate, and you may still need sun protection
